When you search for breast cancer patterns you find a lot of cancer caps, scarves, beanies, and misc. pink objects. I really wanted something different. I thought about what I could make that I could use/wear a lot to show my support. This is what came to mind...
-Hooks sizes k/10 1/2 - 6.50mm and F/5- 3.75mm
-4 skeins of Black Red Heart Super Saver and scrap pink
-1 yard of pink fabric for liner
-7 buttons (i used 4 pink buttons w/white polka-dats, 1 black, and 2 black w/white stripes)
-14in zipper
-Tapestry needle
-Pink thread and a needle
-Measuring tape
-pins
USE 2 STRANDS THROUGH OUT PATTERN!! (EXCEPT FOR RIBBONS)
start with big hook
Body
w/black ch 43 (multiple of 8 +3)
Row1: dc in 3rd ch from hook and each ch across
Row2-3: ch 2, turn *fpdc nxt 4 sts, bpdc nxt 4 sts* rep till end, hdc in turning ch (rows 2&3 are 1 set)
Row4-5: ch 2, turn *bpdc nxt 4 sts, fpdc nxt 4 sts* rep till end, hdc in turning ch (rows 4&5 are 1 set)
rep this pattern until you have a tolal of 18 sets (8 for front and back, and 2 for bottom)
FO and weave in ends
Sides (make 2)
w/black ch 11
Row1: dc in 3rd ch from hook andeach across
rep the same pattern as body until you have 8 sets
attach sides with pins
starting from the top right of a side, sc down and around attaching both sides to body. (This will give it a pronounced look) sl st to 1st sc DON'T FO
sl st down the side (closed) 1 inch
FO and sl st the other side
Brim
attach black at any corner or purse
Rnd1: sc in each st around, sl st to 1st sc
Rnd2: ch 1, turn, sc in each st around, sl st to 1st sc
FO and weave in ends
Handles (make 2)

Row2: ch 1, turn, sc across
FO leaving long tail for sewing
sew sides tog w/invisible stitch to form a rope
sew ends of rope together TIGHT.
Grips (make 2)

switch to small hook
ch 25, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and across

sew together to make ribbon
Sew on all buttons, pockets, ribbons, and the strap (according to picture)
finish by cuting and sewing the liner and zipper on the inside.
